The African (CAF) qualifying for the 2022 World Cup started back in September 2019. After 158 matches, only 5 out of the 54 CAF nations qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Cameroon and Ghana both qualified after missing out in 2018, whilst Senegal, Tunisia, and Morocco all made it 2 in a row.

FORMAT:
Teams ranked 1st-26th received a bye to the second round. Teams ranked 27th-54th started in the first round.

First round:
The 28 teams in this round are drawn into 14 ties of two legs (home and away) with the winner of each advancing to the second round. The away goals rule is used.

Second round:
The 14 first round winners and the 26 teams who receive a bye are drawn into 10 groups of 4, with everyone playing each other twice. The winner of each group advances to the third and final round.

Third round:
The 10 teams in this round are drawn into 5 ties of two legs (home and away) with the winner of each qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The away goals rule is used.
