The Pan South African Language Board (PANSALB) says it has noted with concern comments made by South African-born actress, Charlize Theron.
Theron made comments about the Afrikaans language as 'dying out
and 'not very useful and only spoken by 44 people. There have been mixed reactions on social media following the comments. PANSALB says the comments are inaccurate and misleading. According to Stats SA's Community Survey of 2018, Afrikaans is the 3rd most spoken language in the country making up 12,2% of the population. To take this discussion further, we are now joined via ZOOM by PANSALB CEO, Lance Craig Schultz.
