The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Thoko Didiza says South Africans don't need to panic about food shortages in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This follows reports of panic buying in recent weeks, due to the war which brought global economic uncertainty. Didiza met with stakeholders in the food and agricultural industry and farmers' associations yesterday. They discussed the availability of food safety as part of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team's assessment of the Ukraine war to the local economy.
The engagement evaluated the availability of the food supplies and farming input supplies for the coming months. The Minister said industry stakeholders have committed to sharing information about the food production conditions going forward.
