Perhaps 25 years ago someone went to the Cruise Industry and convinced them to create Black Cultural Tours. That was the time Black Cruise went from 0 to well over 40 Black Cruises each year. African/Americans spent over 60 Billion on Tourism in 2018. African/Americans have a total buying power of 1.2 trillion.
While the Cruise Industry has taken off with various Black Cruises, it is part of the Black culture and history to take a Black Cruise. Anthony “Amp” Elmore a 5 Time World Karate/Kickboxing Champion from Memphis, Tennessee realized a dream when he traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to premier his 1988 semi-autobiographical movie “The Contemporary Gladiator.”
Elmore experienced a spiritual awakening in Kenya whereas he connected with ancestral spirits and a connection to the past whereas he met Dr. Martin Luther King, Fredrick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Tom Mboya, Malcolm X and others. Elmore found a deep connection to not only his African ancestry but Elmore found a connection to humanity.
Elmore via research and history found that Kenya’s birth was part of America’s Civil rights Movement. Kenya is also the birth of Humanity. Elmore noted that Traveling to Africa for Black Americans lacked cultural pathways. Elmore remember as a youth families would put things in the layaways whereas we worked all summer or struggle from August to December to have a Christmas.
Elmore that travel to Africa lacked “Cultural Pathways” within Africa and no cultural Pathways outside of America. Travel to Africa is up to one’s ability to pay. Travel companies or African Countries have no Instructure or Marketing to accommodate the 1.2 Trillion dollar African/American market. Black have no problems getting houses, furniture cars appliance or whatever but they are serviced.
Travel companies are not designed to accommodate the underserved African/American market. Anthony “Amp” Elmore took it upon himself to create a culture whereas African/Americans can travel to Africa. In this video Elmore introduce the “Safari Card” and the Layaway structure for travel to Africa. The idea is to partner with a Bank who would create an account whereas they could used their card to pay a deposit on an African trips secured and safe.
They could pay down on a vacation and make monthly pre-payments. They could earn trip points and discounts. In this video Elmore met Mr. Devin Bufford Vice President of International Banking at First Horizons Bank in Memphis. While one is not guaranteed to make such and arrangement but First Horizon Bank met Kenyan Dignitaries and First Horizon Bank is looking to do International Banking. The partnership between Memphis and Kenya has officially begun.
Anthony “Amp” Elmore created this video to start the Conversation. The group look to make Memphis Africa’s distribution center.
