Morocco supporters took to the streets in Dutch cities on Thursday after their national soccer team beat Canada 2-1 in the World Cup in Qatar.

The victory meant the North African nation advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since 1986.

Morocco's success had sparked angry street riots in the Netherlands after a match earlier in the week, and security was tight, with police out in force.

Sporadic violence flared in The Hague as police cracked down on supporters setting off heavy duty fireworks and a number of arrests were made.
